Carabinieri leadership changes in Italy

Overview

A series of leadership transitions has occurred within various Carabinieri commands across Italy.

In late August, Lieutenant Colonel Giovanni Ruggiu assumed command of the Carabinieri Group in Palermo, succeeding Colonel Aniello Schettino. Ruggiu, who has previous experience coordinating organized crime investigations in the region, will oversee territorial units to maintain security in the Sicilian capital.

In early September, further command changes were reported in Perugia and Calabria. Colonel Sergio Molinari concluded a three-year term as head of the Carabinieri Provincial Command in Perugia before relocating to Rome. Simultaneously, Colonel Raffaele Giovinazzo was appointed Chief of Staff of the Carabinieri Calabria Legion, moving from his position as provincial commander in Crotone to assume regional responsibilities in Catanzaro. His four-year tenure in Crotone was noted by local officials, including Prefect Franca Ferraro and President Antonio Ammirati, for significant operational activity in crime prevention.

Additional transitions were reported across several provinces. In Palermo, Brigadier General Piero Sutera succeeds Luciano Magrini, who is moving to a new role in Rome. In Latina, Colonel Christian Angelillo is departing for the DIA Operational Center in Rome. In Rieti, Major Salvatore Beneduce and Captain Francesco D’Ottavio are moving to new assignments in Nocera Inferiore and Rome, respectively.

Other regional changes include the departure of Major Marco Spinelli from Castelnovo Monti and Captain Pasquale Striano from San Vito. In Ragusa, Lieutenant Colonel Domenico Spadaro has been appointed as the new Commander of the Ragusa Company. In Siracusa, Captain Pasquale Riccardo is transferring to command the Tricase Company, while Captain Salvatore Cortese will lead the Casarano Company. Second Lieutenant Cinzia Rifici has been appointed to lead the Operational and Radio Mobile Nucleus in Siracusa, arriving from the Carabinieri Officers' School in Rome.
