Turkey Ministry of Agriculture announces food fines and farmer subsidies

Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced several updates regarding agricultural support and food safety. Minister İbrahim Yumaklı reported that in August, 100,128 food inspections were conducted nationwide, resulting in 186.5 million TL in administrative fines and criminal complaints against 49 businesses for regulatory violations.

In the agricultural sector, the Ministry is distributing 450 million TL in support payments to farmers across the country. In Giresun, hazelnut producers are increasingly adopting harvest net methods to reduce labor costs by up to 70% and decrease aflatoxin levels. To encourage this, the provincial directorate has accepted 44 new applications for net subsidies.

Meanwhile, hazelnut farmers in the Görele district are facing challenges with drying their crops due to low temperatures at high altitudes. Many producers are moving their harvests to coastal areas, such as the Black Sea Coastal Road and public markets, where they often stay overnight to monitor the drying process.
