Overview

In late June 2026, hazelnut prices differed across provinces, with Giresun premium nuts at 195‑205 TL/kg and neighboring areas at 160‑180 TL/kg. Farmers warned that rising fertilizer, pesticide and labour costs threatened profitability ahead of the harvest.

In mid‑July, Giresun authorities fixed daily wages for harvest workers (1,101 TL with meals, 1,280 TL otherwise) and regulated machine fees and work‑hour limits. By 21 July, chambers in Sakarya set seasonal daily wages and awaited a base price from the Agricultural Market Office, insisting that a price of at least 300 TL/kg was needed to cover input cost spikes of 80‑100 % that pushed estimated production costs to about 243 TL/kg. Producers cautioned that a price below roughly 322 TL/kg would be unsustainable.

On 27 July, Giresun growers began selling freshly picked green‑husk nuts directly from roadside stalls, fetching around 200 TL/kg for fresh nuts and 350 TL/kg for dried‑husk nuts, while officials warned that early picking could lower yields and quality.

On 1 August, Anayol Party leader Ali Karakurt demanded that the 2026 hazelnut base price be set at a minimum of 360 TL/kg. He cited production costs of 215 TL/kg on flat land and 290 TL/kg on sloped land, adding a 20 % producer share and a capital‑risk premium to justify the higher floor. Karakurt criticised the current pricing system as favouring foreign monopolies and called for systemic reform as the Agricultural Market Office prepares to announce the official price.
