Giresun hazelnut season sees new worker wages and harvest festival

The Giresun province announced revised daily wages for 2026 hazelnut harvest workers. When the employer provides meals the wage is 1,101 TL per day; if the worker pays for meals it is 1,280 TL. Additional rates were set for cooks (1,280 TL) and sack carriers (1,380 TL or 1,480 TL depending on who provides food). The fee for operating patoz machines was fixed at 6,000 TL per ton or hour, and operating hours were limited to 08:00‑21:00 in towns and 07:00‑24:00 in villages. The decree also bans deductions from workers’ pay and requires prompt payment after harvest.

At the same time, Giresun hosted the 14th Çömlekçi Deresi Hazelnut Festival in the Görele‑Tirebolu area. The event began with a symbolic hazelnut harvest, featured traditional horon dances, yogurt‑eating contests and a series of folk‑game competitions. Participants received shopping vouchers, and Beykoz deputy mayor Özlem Vural Gürzel was presented with the “Fındık Ağası” (Hazelnut Chief) ring. Local residents, NGOs and political party representatives attended, emphasizing community solidarity ahead of the harvest season.
