Giro d’Italia per la Pace brings Lamp of Assisi to Italian cities
The Giro d’Italia per la Pace, an initiative organized to commemorate the eighth centenary of Saint Francis of Assisi, continues its tour through several Italian cities, carrying the Lamp of Peace of Assisi as a symbol of fraternity and dialogue.
In Modena, Mayor Massimo Mezzetti welcomed the lamp alongside students, emphasizing the importance of peace education and citing Nelson Mandela’s reconciliation efforts in South Africa as an example of non-violence. In Reggio Emilia, Mayor Marco Massari lit the lamp during a ceremony involving local students and educators, followed by a peace march to the Giardino dei Giusti.
In Ancona, the tour included the ceremony ‘Francesco e il mare dell’incontro’. Mayor Daniele Silvetti used the occasion to advocate for authentic integration in schools, arguing that education should focus on genuine social harmony rather than just managing student numbers.
