Girondins de Bordeaux faces relegation and potential liquidation
The historic French football club Girondins de Bordeaux faces potential liquidation following a recommendation from the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) to uphold its exclusion from national leagues.
Despite a recent ownership change where Gérard Lopez transferred the club to Sparta Capital for a symbolic one euro, and the injection of 10.6 million euros to cover debts and upcoming seasons, the CNOSF advised maintaining the sanction previously issued by the DNCG. Consequently, the six-time French champions are set to be relegated to Régional 1, the sixth tier of French football, rather than the intended National 1.
The French Football Federation (FFF) has indicated it will likely follow the CNOSF recommendation. The club has 15 days to appeal the decision through an administrative court. If the financial instability persists, the court-appointed official overseeing the club's restructuring could request a formal liquidation through the commercial court.
