Girondins de Bordeaux negotiates takeover to avoid liquidation
The Girondins de Bordeaux football club is negotiating a potential takeover by the investment fund Park Bench to avoid judicial liquidation. Following the French Football Federation's decision to relegate the club to regional championships, previous takeover attempts had been abandoned. However, discussions have resumed between Park Bench and current owner Gérard Lopez.
To ensure the project's viability, Park Bench is working to address the club's €26 million debt and is seeking to renegotiate terms, including extending the continuation plan and potentially resolving legal disputes involving former coach Vladimir Petkovic. The club has already missed several official matches this season due to its financial instability.
A final decision regarding the takeover and the club's placement within the regional leagues depends on the evaluation of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional management control commission. If these negotiations fail, the club faces imminent liquidation.
