Girondins de Bordeaux ownership transfer to Sparta Capital pending funding

The French football club Girondins de Bordeaux has reached an agreement to sell the club to the British investment fund Sparta Capital. The deal requires a €10 million injection to meet the club’s financial obligations for the 2025‑2026 and 2026‑2027 seasons. So far only €5 million has been transferred by British investor James Bord, and the original deadline has passed.

The French sports arbitration body CNOSF has granted a short extension, allowing the club to avoid liquidation and to seek reinstatement in the fourth tier (National 1). New club president Dominique Delport, a former media executive, announced his appointment alongside James Bord, who is also known for winning the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. The owners say the funding shortfall must be resolved for the sale to be finalised and for the club to return to national competition.
