Girondins de Bordeaux relegated to French sixth tier

The Paris administrative court has upheld the relegation of Girondins de Bordeaux to Régional 1, the sixth tier of French football. This decision follows a series of rulings, including a hearing before the DNCG, France’s financial oversight body for professional football.

Alain Giresse, the former Bordeaux captain and technical director of Gabon’s national football team, expressed profound sadness over the decision, stating that it felt like “an entire part of my own life falling apart.” Giresse noted that the club's situation was so compromised that overturning the demotion would have required a miracle, as new investors failed to offset previous legal and financial judgments.

While Giresse had previously supported the takeover project led by Sparta Capital, he expressed uncertainty regarding the investors' future actions. He noted that while a “small flicker of hope” remains for the club, the possibility of a reprieve is extremely slim.
