FC Girondins de Bordeaux relegated to sixth tier by Paris court

The Paris Administrative Court has upheld the decision to relegate FC Girondins de Bordeaux to the sixth-tier Régional 1 for the 2026/27 season. This ruling follows a sanction by the French Football Federation (FFF) and the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG), which excluded the club from national competitions due to insufficient financial guarantees.

Despite a 10.6 million euro financial package presented by the investment fund Sparta Capital—which acquired the club from Gérard Lopez for a symbolic one euro in July—the court ruled that financial commitments made after the DNCG appeal hearing could not be considered in the current proceedings. The court found no serious doubt regarding the legality of the exclusion.

The club and its new investors are exploring all remaining legal avenues, including a potential appeal to the Council of State. Sparta Capital has also expressed intentions to request an immediate re-examination of the case by the FFF Executive Committee. The club remains in a precarious position, facing the threat of judicial liquidation if the current investment project is withdrawn.
