Girondins de Bordeaux to be acquired by Park Bench for one euro
The French football club Girondins de Bordeaux is set to avoid liquidation following a takeover agreement by the English investment fund Park Bench. The sale will be completed for a symbolic price of one euro.
Under the terms of the agreement presented to the commercial court, the club's debt will be reduced from 26 million euros to 13 million euros. This reduction is made possible because current owner Gérard Lopez has agreed to renounce 13 million euros in claims against the club to facilitate a return to stability. The remaining debt will be repaid over a 12-year period.
The takeover aims to secure the club's place in the Regional 1 league and prevent total bankruptcy. While the club's future in national competitions remains dependent on court validation and budget approval, they are expected to continue participating in the Coupe de France.
