GitHub Copilot expands AI capabilities for Java and terminal workflows

GitHub Copilot is expanding its utility for developers through specialized applications in Java programming and terminal-based workflows. For Java developers, the AI assistant is designed to automate repetitive boilerplate code, generate classes, methods, and services, and assist in building Spring Boot applications. It also supports unit test generation, documentation, and database configurations.

Additionally, GitHub Copilot CLI provides an AI coding agent directly within the terminal. Unlike standard editor integrations, the CLI functions as a standalone agent in the shell that can read repositories, plan changes, edit files, and execute shell commands with user approval. The tool is compatible with most modern Linux distributions and includes support for GitHub’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to manage issues and pull requests using natural language.
