Giuseppe Cangialosi re‑elected mayor of Santa Cristina Gela in Sicily municipal elections
Giuseppe Cangialosi has been re‑elected mayor of Santa Cristina Gela, Sicily, after securing the required 50 % quorum as the sole candidate in the municipality’s 2026 local elections. He described the outcome as “fabulous” and said the new term will focus on attracting young people, expanding tourism, and completing a new territorial development plan that received regional support. Cangialosi highlighted upcoming projects such as a high‑end hotel expected to create 30‑40 qualified jobs, an olive‑oil brand initiative to boost local agriculture, and continued maintenance of health, school and transport services.
The election in Santa Cristina Gela was part of a broader round of municipal elections across Sicily, where several towns met the quorum in single‑candidate races on 24 May 2026. Results from other communes, including Raccuja, Godrano, Mirto and others, were being reported alongside Cangialosi’s confirmation.
