Giuseppe Conte attacks Meloni government, calls himself 'public enemy number one
Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte posted a photo of former minister Daniela Santanchè on social media, using it to launch a broad attack on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government. He accused Fratelli d’Italia, Lega‑linked newspapers and TV channels of targeting him and of creating an electoral climate in which he is portrayed as the “public enemy number one”.
Conte repeated that he had fully explained his handling of the Covid‑19 crisis in courts, numerous interviews and before the parliamentary commission, which he described as a “political tribunal” set up by the majority. He dismissed Santanchè’s recent comments on his Covid record as “laughable” and warned that the opposition parties were attempting to intimidate him with media pressure and legal attacks.
The statements reflect ongoing tensions between the Five Star Movement and the governing right‑wing coalition, with Conte positioning himself as a victim of partisan media and judicial scrutiny.
