Giuseppe Conte Blocks Renzi and Rejects Superbonus as He Courts Centre‑Left Alliance

Italian former prime minister Giuseppe Conte has reaffirmed his refusal to include Matteo Renzi’s Italia Viva in any future centre‑left coalition, instead signalling openness to the Onorato‑led list and deepening the split within the broader “campo largo”. Elly Schlein of the Democratic Party says she remains ready to dialogue with all potential partners, while Renzi pushes for primary elections and urges the left to unite against the right.

In a separate statement, Conte announced he would no longer support the Superbonus tax‑cut scheme, positioning himself as a pragmatic alternative to the more reformist factions of the centre‑left. His moves aim to attract reform‑oriented voters and shape the coalition dynamics ahead of upcoming elections.
