Giuseppe Zamberletti honored in Palmanova for Friuli reconstruction legacy
To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Friuli earthquake, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Civil Protection has dedicated the emergency coordination room in Palmanova to Giuseppe Zamberletti. Zamberletti is recognized as the father of Italian Civil Protection and a key figure in the region's reconstruction efforts.
The dedication ceremony included regional Civil Protection Councilor Riccardo Riccardi, National Department Head Fabio Ciciliano, and local mayors. The octagonal room in Palmanova serves as a central hub for coordinating regional emergency operations.
In related commemorations held in Udine, officials discussed the evolution from the 1976 tragedy to modern seismic engineering and prevention. The discussions highlighted how the earthquake served as a catalyst for social and economic rebirth, leading to advanced seismic safety standards and a multidisciplinary approach to contemporary crises, including climate change and health emergencies.
