Italian Civil Protection commemorations

Overview

In Palmanova, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Civil Protection dedicated its emergency coordination room to Giuseppe Zamberletti to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Friuli earthquake. Zamberletti is recognized as the “father of Italian Civil Protection” for his role in the region’s reconstruction efforts.

Commemorations in Udine further addressed the transition from the 1976 disaster to modern seismic engineering and prevention. Officials noted how the earthquake catalyzed advancements in seismic safety standards and established a multidisciplinary approach to managing contemporary crises, such as health emergencies and climate change.
