Gladson Cameli's conviction upheld by Brazil's STJ
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) has denied an extraordinary appeal filed by the defense of former Acre governor Gladson Cameli. Minister Mauro Campbell Marques rejected the motion, which sought to bring legal challenges regarding the STJ's previous ruling to the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
As a result of this decision, Cameli’s conviction remains in effect. In May, the STJ's Special Court sentenced him to 25 years and nine months of imprisonment in a closed regime, along with a fine of 600 days. The court also ordered him to pay R$ 11,785,020.31 in material damages to the State of Acre.
The conviction covers several crimes, including bidding fraud, embezzlement, passive corruption, money laundering, and criminal organization.
