Glasgow Commonwealth Games draw criticism of Pakistan's javelin star and parliamentary praise for India

At the 2022 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Pakistan’s Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem finished ninth with a best throw of under 80 metres, far short of his previous 90‑metre performances. Critics pointed to inadequate preparation, the absence of foreign coaching support and a dispute with the Pakistan Amateur Athletics Federation and the Pakistan Sports Board. Former Olympic bronze‑medallist boxer Hussain Shah said, “He is a player who, despite coming from a poor background, brought great achievements to Pakistan.”

In India, the two houses of Parliament honoured the nation’s athletes who secured 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals in Glasgow. Speakers named gold medallists such as Harsh Singh, Asmita Deo and Jasmine Lamba, and praised the team’s success as an inspiration for future sportspersons.
