Glasgow man avoids jail after drugs and lamb found in car
A 56-year-old man, John McNeil, has avoided a prison sentence after being caught in a vehicle containing approximately £14,000 worth of cocaine and heroin. The incident occurred in April 2023 when police intercepted a Volkswagen Golf on the M74 motorway near Glasgow.
During the stop, officers discovered a small lamb, named Pablo, eating a bag of chips in the back seat. The occupants claimed they had rescued the animal from the middle of the road, though the lamb was later identified as belonging to a farm in Motherwell without permission.
McNeil was found guilty of possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply. Sheriff Tony Kelly sentenced him to 300 hours of unpaid work and a six-month home curfew, citing a low risk of re-offending. The driver, Lindsey Sangster, was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and received an 18-month driving ban for driving under the influence of drugs.
