Glider collision in Upstate New York kills pilot

A midair collision between two glider planes in Edinburg, Upstate New York, resulted in the death of an 80-year-old pilot. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon near Wheeler Road.

According to New York State Police, the collision involved a group of gliders that had been assisted into the air by an engine plane from Saratoga County Airport. While one pilot landed safely at Plateau Sky Ranch Airport without injury, the second aircraft crashed in a remote area off Sand Lake Road. The pilot of the second aircraft, identified as James Morzillo of Saratoga Springs, was found deceased at the crash site.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and State Police are currently investigating the cause of the collision.
