Yalova court begins trial for singer Güllü's death
The first hearing has concluded in the case regarding the death of singer Gül Tut, known as ‘Güllü’, who fell from a sixth-floor window in Yalova’s Çınarcık district. The defendant, Tuğyan Ülkem Gülter, faces charges of ‘premeditated murder against an ascendant’ and is seeking an aggravated life sentence. Gülter denied the allegations, claiming she did not see her mother fall and that she was in another room with a friend, Sultan Nur Ulu, at the time.
Evidence presented includes digital records, such as a message sent by Gülter stating, ‘My mother is about to throw herself,’ which the defense claims pertains to a different subject. Witness Sultan Nur Ulu, who faces potential charges for perjury, provided conflicting statements, at one point claiming she saw Gülter push her mother. The court has decided to continue Gülter's detention and has adjourned the trial until October 9.
In a separate but related legal matter in İzmir, a prosecutor has requested up to 22 years and 6 months in prison for individuals involved in the death of infant Altay Toprak Kınalı. The child died following exposure to toxic agricultural pesticides used during a building disinfection process in the Konak district. Forensic reports confirmed the death was caused by phosphine gas poisoning.
