Global alcohol consumption trends shift toward moderation and health awareness
Global trends in alcohol consumption are shifting toward moderation and increased health awareness. A report by Ipsos and IWSR for AB InBev indicates that while total global alcohol volume remains 30% higher than in 2000, per capita consumption has decreased in recent years. Consumers are increasingly prioritizing quality, control, and specific occasions that align with personal goals, with 76% of legal-age adults continuing to consume alcohol.
Parallel to these market shifts, health experts warn of the severe consequences of excessive consumption. The World Health Organization notes that alcohol is causally linked to over 200 diseases and injuries. Medical perspectives highlight that alcohol abuse can lead to a cycle of physical, mental, and social deterioration, often intersecting with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia. While some use alcohol to alleviate distress, the effects are often transient and can exacerbate underlying psychological conditions.
