Global and Italian wealth sees significant growth in 2025-2026

Global wealth for High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) reached a record $98.3 trillion in 2025, an 8.7% increase driven by strong stock market performance and slowing inflation. According to the Capgemini Research Institute, the number of millionaires worldwide rose by nearly two million, totaling 25.3 million. The Ultra-High Net Worth Individual (UHNWI) segment, consisting of those with assets exceeding $30 million, saw its population grow by 9.4% to approximately 250,000 people, with their total wealth increasing by 9.7%.

In Italy, the financial wealth of households reached €6,409.5 billion by the end of the first quarter of 2026, a nearly 5% increase from the previous year. Data from the Unimpresa Study Center indicates that this growth was primarily driven by stocks, mutual funds, insurance instruments, and bonds. Specifically, stocks and participations rose to €2,034.9 billion, accounting for 31.75% of total financial wealth. There has been a notable shift in portfolio composition, with increased exposure to financial markets and medium-to-long-term investments compared to traditional bank deposits.
