Global Avocado Output Rises: South America Tops 1 Million Tons, Australia Nears Record

South American avocado exporters reached a historic milestone, shipping more than one million metric tons in the 2025/26 season, according to Rabobank’s Global Avocado Update 2026. Production led the surge, with Peru accounting for over half of the total, Colombia posting a 16 % year‑on‑year increase, and Chile delivering its most productive cycle in 16 years. Smaller exporters such as Ecuador and Brazil also expanded acreage. The report warns that future yields could be disrupted by El Niño‑related weather, which may cause flooding in Peru, fungal pressure in Colombia and altered rainfall in Chile, while rising input costs and potential USMCA trade shifts add further uncertainty.

In Australia, avocado production is rebounding after a 15 % dip in the 2024/25 season. Rabobank projects output to climb to about 170,000 t, driving record‑high exports and keeping retail prices relatively low. Queensland remains the dominant growing region, supplying roughly half of national output. Analysts attribute the recovery to structural expansion, increased plantings and maturing orchards, suggesting a positive medium‑term outlook for both domestic consumption and overseas demand.
