Global corn ethanol production and consumption forecasts rise
Global corn ethanol production and consumption are seeing significant shifts. In Brazil, Mato Grosso has reached a historic record for hydrated ethanol consumption in 2026. Concurrently, Brazilian corn-based ethanol production is projected to reach 11.8 billion liters in the 2026/27 harvest, a 14.6% increase from the previous season. This growth is supported by 33 production units in Brazil, including flex units capable of processing both corn and sugarcane.
In the United States, the USDA has raised its forecast for corn used in ethanol production to 5.65 billion bushels for the 2026-27 marketing year. This follows an increase in the US corn production forecast to 16 billion bushels, driven by higher projected yields. However, due to the larger supply outlook, the USDA has reduced its forecast for the season-average price received by US corn producers to $4.70 per bushel.
