Global Development Initiative marks 5th anniversary with $23 billion in mobilized funds

The Global Development Initiative (GDI), proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 76th UN General Assembly, has reached its fifth anniversary. Supported by over 130 countries and international organizations, the initiative has mobilized more than $23 billion for cooperation projects. The global development project database currently includes over 1,800 projects covering eight key areas and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Practical applications of the GDI include infrastructure and capacity-building projects in various regions. Notable examples include a water supply project in Abuja, Nigeria, and a bridge in Sarawak, Malaysia. In terms of technical training, China has established over 30 Luban Workshops globally, training more than 160,000 students in fields such as automotive repair and technology.

Parallel to the GDI, the Global Governance Initiative has completed its first year. Supported by nearly 160 countries and organizations, the initiative has seen the establishment of 'Friends of Global Governance' groups in New York, Geneva, and Vienna. At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, President Xi emphasized the role of the SCO in driving global governance reform and supporting the development of the Global South.
