Global energy firms partner for SMR deployment and Polish nuclear contract advances

A strategic agreement has been signed between SGE, GE Vernova, Hitachi, and Samsung C&T to accelerate the commercial deployment of BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The partnership aims to target markets in Central and Eastern Europe as well as the United Kingdom. The agreement was finalized in New York during the Atlantic Council Nuclear Energy Policy Summit.

In a separate development regarding nuclear infrastructure in Poland, negotiators have reached a breakthrough concerning the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the first Polish nuclear power plant in Choczewo. Polish negotiators successfully secured terms ensuring that Polish law will serve as the legal basis for the turnkey agreement with the American Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium, rather than American law. This outcome addresses concerns regarding legal protections and dispute resolution for domestic companies participating in the nuclear sector. Additionally, the commercial package for the EPC contract has reportedly been agreed upon.
