Global EV charging capacity varies significantly by country

A new analysis of the ‘Global EV Outlook 2026’ by the International Energy Agency (IEA) highlights the varying levels of public charging capacity available per electric vehicle (EV) across 46 countries.

South Korea leads the ranking with 9.2 kW of public charging capacity per vehicle, followed by India at 6.2 kW and China at 5.9 kW. Conversely, Uruguay and the United Arab Emirates show significantly lower availability, with 0.092 kW and 0.096 kW per vehicle, respectively. The report emphasizes that the total number of charging stations is less critical than the available charging power relative to the number of EVs on the road.
