Global insurance market reaches $7.1 trillion in 2025
The global insurance market reached $7.1 trillion in premiums in 2025, according to a report by Bain & Company. This represents a significant increase from $6.7 trillion in 2024 and shows the market has doubled in size since 2010.
Despite this growth and improved profitability, particularly in non-life insurance, Bain & Company warns of persistent structural challenges. These include issues regarding affordability, insurance access, limited returns on technology investments, and increasing competition. In regions like Spain, factors such as an aging population, extreme weather events, and digital risks are driving the need for expanded coverage.
In the Spanish market, major foreign insurers—including Generali, Allianz, AXA, Zurich, Helvetia Caser, and Sanitas—distributed €1.24 billion in dividends to their respective groups in 2025, up from €972.4 million the previous year. Generali España Hólding reported a dividend of €386 million, which exceeded its €180.5 million profit, partly due to the acquisition of Liberty in 2024. Zurich also saw significant returns, with dividends from its subsidiary totaling €256.5 million.
