Global Journalists Council discusses local media future in Afyonkarahisar

Approximately 50 media representatives from various provinces across Turkey gathered in Afyonkarahisar for a meeting hosted by the Global Journalists Council (KGK) to discuss the future of local media.

During the meeting, KGK President Mehmet Ali Dim addressed the economic and structural challenges facing the sector. He emphasized the necessity of a professional union law to help local media overcome current crises and ensure the survival of print journalism. Dim argued that a media landscape without print publications is not possible and warned that the disappearance of print media could negatively impact the public's right to receive news.

Dim also highlighted significant operational difficulties, including rising costs for paper, ink, and printing materials, as well as the increasing difficulty of finding printing facilities and qualified personnel. He noted that some local newspapers are now forced to print in different cities due to these logistical and financial constraints.
