QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to Asia and Europe through the end of November. This extension follows ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Qatari LNG exports have plummeted by 96% year-over-year, with volumes transiting the Strait of Hormuz to Asia falling by 88%. The crisis stems from damage to the Ras Laffan complex, where Iranian drone and missile attacks have reportedly paralyzed 17% of the country's export capacity, equivalent to 12.8 million tons annually. QatarEnergy is currently in discussions to secure 2 to 3 million tons of U.S. LNG per year to mitigate these losses.

Impacted buyers include state-owned entities in Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as Italy’s Edison, which expects its deliveries to remain suspended until early December. Meanwhile, the United States is filling the supply gap, with U.S. LNG exports to Asia reaching record highs. In Southeast Asia, despite price volatility and supply risks, approximately 100 GW of new gas-fired power capacity remains under construction.
