Global PC shipments decline over 20% in Q3
Global PC shipments experienced a significant decline in the third quarter, with reports from Gartner, IDC, and Omdia indicating a year-on-year drop of approximately 20% to 22.4%. This decline represents the lowest shipment levels since early 2023.
Industry analysts attribute the downturn to rising component costs, particularly a fivefold surge in DRAM prices compared to the previous year. These increased costs for memory and storage have been passed on to consumers, leading to higher retail prices and reduced demand for budget-friendly models. Instead, spending has shifted toward high-specification products, such as workstations and AI-capable PCs.
Lenovo maintained its position as the market leader despite a shipment decrease of over 22%. HP saw the most substantial decline among top manufacturers, with shipments falling by 30.9%. Dell and ASUS also reported significant drops. Conversely, Apple showed more resilience with a lower decline rate of approximately 7.1% to 11.3%, leading to an increase in its overall market share driven by demand for MacBook products.
