Global Sumud Flotilla readies new humanitarian mission to breach Gaza blockade

Activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla, represented in Turkey by Beheşti İsmail Songür (also referred to as Bahçi Ismail Sungür), announced preparations for a new humanitarian mission aimed at breaking Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. Planning meetings in Istanbul are coordinating expanded logistics, with a larger fleet of ships and increased participation from activists across dozens of countries. The group intends to sail within the coming months, delivering food and medical aid while also providing moral support to Gaza’s civilian population.

The flotilla’s previous attempt in May was intercepted by the Israeli navy in the Mediterranean, resulting in the seizure of vessels, cargo and the detention of activists, some of whom remain held in the occupied territories. Legal teams are now pursuing cases in European courts and other international forums to secure the release of those detainees and to hold Israeli officials accountable. A land convoy intended to approach Gaza from Libya was halted by forces loyal to the Hafter militia, further complicating the effort.

Organizers emphasized that the upcoming mission will be broader and more coordinated than earlier attempts, seeking to draw global attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to challenge the blockade through direct action and international legal pressure.
