Global surveys show support for child social media restrictions

A global survey by Ipsos across 31 countries reveals that 73% of respondents support banning social media use for children under 14. While there is significant concern regarding the impact of social media on well-being, attitudes toward artificial intelligence in education are more positive, with only 39% supporting a ban on AI use in schools. Mental health was identified as the primary challenge facing youth globally.

In Japan, a survey by the Children and Families Agency shows a generational divide regarding social media restrictions for minors. While over 50% of respondents aged 15 to 39 approve of limiting access, support is lowest among teenagers. Specifically, among 15-year-olds, support falls below 50%. The Japanese study also noted that younger users are more likely to report feeling poorly about themselves after viewing others' lives on social media.
