Global tourism investment exceeds $1 trillion in 2025
Global investment in the travel and tourism sector exceeded $1 trillion in 2025, representing an 8.5% year-on-year increase, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Economic Impact Research report. The sector contributed a record $11.6 trillion to the global GDP, outperforming the general global economy.
Major investment concentration was observed in the United States, China, India, and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for nearly half of all global capital investment in the sector, totaling approximately $500 billion. China is projected to reach a tourism investment portfolio of $402 billion by 2036, while India is seeing rapid expansion in connectivity and destination development.
Separately, Booking.com’s 11th Annual Travel and Sustainability Report highlights shifting consumer attitudes. In Argentina, 60% of travelers recognize the positive economic impact of tourism on local communities, though 60% also acknowledge the environmental repercussions of travel. While 45% of Argentinian travelers consider sustainable travel a high priority, 47% stated it is not their primary factor when planning trips.
