Global wine industry faces declining consumption and competitiveness challenges
The global wine industry is navigating a period of declining consumption and increased competition. In Argentina, the viticulture sector faces a dual challenge: falling global demand and a loss of export competitiveness. Analysts note that since 2023, rising domestic costs relative to the US dollar have made production more expensive, potentially leading to vineyard abandonment or volatile price fluctuations if current practices are not adjusted.
In Chile, industry leaders observe that while the sharp decline in consumption seen after the pandemic peak is stabilizing, it is not expected to rebound significantly. Instead, the market is shifting toward a zero-sum environment. As major export drivers like the US, UK, and China fluctuate, growth for individual wineries will likely come from capturing market share from competitors rather than through overall market expansion.
