Globo secures major football rights as SBT pivots to drama

Globo has secured significant sports broadcasting rights in South America for the 2027–2030 cycle. Through an agreement with Conmebol, the Grupo Globo sports channel SporTV will return to broadcasting the Copa Libertadores, with approximately 70 matches per season scheduled starting in 2027. This deal complements Globo's existing rights for the tournament across its terrestrial channel and digital platform, Ge TV.

Following the loss of rights for the Copa do Brasil to Globo for the 2027–2030 period, SBT is shifting its strategic focus. Having been unable to secure major football tournament packages, the network plans to reinvest in national drama production. SBT intends to move forward with a partnership with JPO Entertainment, aiming to launch an adult-oriented telenovela in 2027.
