Colombia President Gustavo Petro Under Murder Claim and Funding Probe

María Claudia Tarazona, the widow of slain opposition leader Miguel Uribe Turbay, publicly accused President Gustavo Petro of being complicit in her husband's killing after the president claimed during the opening of the new Congress that no opposition members had died under his administration. Tarazona called Petro "false and liar" on his X account, urging that the case be investigated as a possible state crime, though no judicial link has been established.

Former head of the Congressional Investigation and Accusation Commission, Gloria Arizabaleta, said she travelled to the United States in October 2025 to seek formal statements from extradited narcotraffickers—including Otoniel, Pipe Tuluá, ex‑Venezuelan militant Hugo "El Pollo" Carvajal and the so‑called "narcopilot" Carlos Restrepo—aiming to uncover any illegal contributions to Petro’s 2022 presidential campaign. She met with U.S. officials and a Tampa prosecutor, and received what she described as "very sensitive" material that allegedly shows communications between the criminals and Juan Fernando Petro, the president’s brother. Arizabaleta noted that her suspension by the Procuraduría occurred while she pursued these efforts.
