Glyfada: Man with organized crime ties shot dead

A 52-year-old man, known by the nickname ‘Papagalos’, was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday in Glyfada, Greece. The victim was discovered near the intersection of Karamanli and Panagouli streets, close to a golf course and the Elliniko construction site. He was found lying next to his overturned motorcycle.

Police investigators found between five and eight shell casings at the scene. Preliminary forensic evidence indicates the victim sustained fatal gunshot wounds to both his head and body. The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime is leading the investigation, which is exploring the possibility of an ambush or a settlement of accounts.

The victim had a significant criminal history, including involvement in organized crime, football fan violence, and domestic violence. He was reportedly linked to the Moschouri group, which authorities have associated with the Greek Mafia. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly out of custody under restrictive conditions. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the perpetrators, who are believed to have fled the scene on a motorcycle wearing helmets and dark clothing.
