Glyfada murder investigation
Overview
Authorities have launched an investigation into the murder of a 52-year-old man, known by the nickname ‘Papagalos’, who was found dead in the early hours of Sunday in Glyfada near the intersection of Karamanli and Panagouli streets, close to a golf course and the Elliniko construction site. While the victim was found lying next to his overturned motorcycle, leading a passerby to suspect a traffic accident, police determined he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to both his head and body.
Investigators recovered approximately eight shell casings at the scene. The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime is leading the investigation, which is exploring whether the killing is a ‘settlement of accounts’ or linked to organized crime. The victim had a significant criminal record, including involvement in football fan violence and a 2024 arrest for domestic violence. He also had links to previous shooting incidents in 2018 and 2022. He worked as a security professional in the nightlife industry and had reported links to the ‘Moschouri group’, an organization associated with the so-called ‘Greek Mafia’.
At the time of his death, the victim had recently been released from prison and was reportedly living under restrictive conditions. Authorities are currently reviewing local surveillance footage to identify the perpetrator(s), who are believed to have fled the scene on a motorcycle while wearing helmets and dark clothing.
