Godfrey Lebeya denies interfering in Katiso Molefe raid

Former Hawks director, Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya, has denied allegations that he interfered with a December 2024 police raid at the Sandton residence of businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe. Testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Lebeya stated that his decision to send officers to the property was intended solely to investigate reports that individuals were impersonating Hawks officials.

Lebeya testified that he acted after receiving information from TikTok influencer Malcolm X regarding potential impersonators. He maintained that he did not know Mr. Molefe and had not been contacted by him directly. While previous witnesses claimed Hawks officers arrived at the scene and demanded investigation details, Lebeya argued that any chaos during the operation was the result of poor planning and coordination by the team executing the raid rather than intentional disruption.

During his testimony, Lebeya also addressed his strained relationship with private investigator Paul O’Sullivan. He claimed their professional relationship deteriorated after he refused to provide updates regarding litigation involving President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala matter. Lebeya further alleged that certain individuals, including former Advocate Malesela Tefo and Patrick Masahle, had sought his removal from office.
