Goiânia administration to penalize education workers for non-compliance with staffing orders

The Goiânia municipal government has confirmed it will cut the attendance records of administrative education workers who fail to comply with a court order to maintain at least 70% of staff in schools. The decision follows a ruling by Judge Augusto Ventura of the Court of Justice of Goiás (TJ-GO), which mandates minimum operational levels in schools verified through frequency records.

Failure to comply with the judicial order subjects the Sintego union to a daily fine of R$ 5,000, with potential total penalties reaching R$ 100,000. The administration noted that approximately 5% of workers are not meeting the requirement, affecting roughly 6,000 students.

The city administration stated that negotiations with the union have ended, claiming the movement has become influenced by political-electoral interests. Previously, the Executive branch proposed a financial package of R$ 197.3 million over five years, which included salary floor increases and restructuring, which officials claim respects fiscal responsibility limits.
