Goiânia authorities respond to storm damage and flooding risks

Heavy rains in Goiânia have prompted emergency responses from municipal agencies. The Companhia de Urbanização de Goiânia (Comurg) has intensified preventive cleaning of streams to mitigate flooding risks. To date, cleaning efforts have covered over 4 million square meters of stream banks and margins. Teams are working to remove debris, including tires, mattresses, and appliances, which often obstruct water flow during storms.

Simultaneously, the city's Climate Crisis Cabinet, Comurg, and the Municipal Environmental Agency (Amma) responded to incidents involving 12 fallen trees. These incidents caused damage to vehicles, walls, and electrical networks, including a power outage in the Setor Oeste region. One fallen tree had previously been flagged by Amma for structural issues due to termite infestation, though replacement efforts were reportedly suspended due to a judicial decision requested by the Public Ministry of Goiás.
