Infrastructure and management developments in Goiás
Overview
In Goiás, regional authorities are focusing on administrative integration and physical infrastructure improvements. The Associação Goiana de Municípios (AGM) and Detran-GO have held workshops to assist mayors in the municipalization of traffic management. These sessions aim to integrate cities into the National Traffic System (SNT) to enhance local enforcement, education, and road engineering. Odair José Soares, president of Detran-GO, noted that municipalization allows cities to develop independent actions while receiving technical support and increased access to road safety resources. Currently, fewer than 30% of municipalities in Goiás have completed this process.
Parallel to administrative efforts, infrastructure maintenance is being conducted across the state. Goinfra is managing asphalt recovery, drainage, and signaling projects in 20 municipalities, including Valparaíso de Goiás and Novo Gama. Under the ‘Goiás em Movimento Municípios’ program, Goinfra has published ten new contracts totaling approximately R$ 1.11 billion for highway and aerodrome maintenance across nine cities, including Mineiros and Jataí.
In the capital, Goiânia, municipal authorities have intensified drainage cleaning to mitigate flooding risks. Comurg has reported cleaning over 4 million square meters of stream banks to remove debris such as tires and appliances. Following heavy rains, the city’s Climate Crisis Cabinet, Comurg, and the Municipal Environmental Agency (Amma) responded to incidents involving 12 fallen trees that damaged vehicles, walls, and electrical networks. One specific incident involved a tree previously flagged by Amma for termite infestation, though replacement efforts were reportedly suspended due to a judicial decision requested by the Public Ministry of Goiás.
