Goiânia authorities target illegal recycling and loan sharking rings

Authorities in Goiânia conducted two distinct operations targeting illegal activities. The Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) launched ‘Operação Reciclagem’ to inspect recycling establishments. The operation aimed to ensure sanitary conditions, verify business licenses, and identify potential dengue mosquito breeding sites. Three locations were embargoed due to identified irregularities.

In a separate criminal investigation, police dismantled a loan sharking ring involving 11 individuals across Goiás and the Federal District. The group, allegedly led by retired Military Police sergeant José Luiz Silva Sá, charged interest rates of up to 20% per month and used violent intimidation and death threats to collect debts.

Investigators reported that the group moved approximately R$ 10 million in eight months. During the operation, police seized eight luxury vehicles, weapons, and mobile phones, and froze assets totaling R$ 10 million. One suspect, Adailton Fernandes de Oliveira, was filmed displaying large quantities of cash. The group faces investigation for extortion, armed criminal organization, and money laundering.
