Goiânia recyclable material exchange program
Overview
The Goiânia City Hall launched the ‘Troca e Coopera Goiânia’ pilot program, a recycling initiative coordinated by the Municipal Secretariat of Development, Industry, Commerce, Agriculture, and Services (Sedicas) in partnership with the Organization of Cooperatives of Brazil in Goiás (OCB/GO).
The program allows residents to exchange two kilograms of clean, dry recyclable materials for one kilogram of food produced in community gardens. The initiative focuses on fruits, vegetables, and greens that may have aesthetic imperfections but are safe for consumption. By utilizing products that do not reach traditional markets, the project aims to promote recycling, enhance food security, and reduce food waste while supporting rural producers and cooperatives.
