Goiânia education administrative strike enters 13th day

Administrative workers in Goiânia's municipal education network are entering their 13th consecutive day of strike action. The movement, organized by the Sintego union, seeks a new career plan and professional valuation. While teachers and temporary staff continue to work, the absence of administrative staff—including cleaning and cafeteria workers—has disrupted services, leading to the total paralysis of six Municipal Early Childhood Education Centers (Cmeis).

Negotiations between the city administration and the union have stalled. The municipal government previously proposed a salary floor increase for Level I to R$ 1,640 with progressive adjustments through 2030, but the category rejected the offer, citing the long implementation period. The city has since withdrawn the proposal, stating that negotiation possibilities within municipal financial limits have been exhausted.

A judicial decision from the Tribunal de Justiça de Goiás (TJ-GO) requires that 70% of the workforce remain active during the strike. In response to continued non-compliance with this order, the municipality has filed a lawsuit seeking to declare the strike illegal and ensure the mandatory minimum staffing levels are met.
