Goiânia landscape transformed by 50,000 blooming ipê trees

The city of Goiânia is experiencing a vibrant flowering season as approximately 50,000 ipê trees bloom across the landscape. These native species of the Cerrado biome utilize a survival mechanism where they lose their leaves and flower during the dry season due to water stress.

The city features a variety of colors, including yellow, white, purple, and green. Biologists from the Municipal Environmental Agency (Amma) note that while species like the ipê-tabaco are suitable for sidewalks, others, such as the El Salvador pink ipê, are not recommended for the local dry climate. Beyond their aesthetic value, these trees are essential for the conservation of the Cerrado, providing food for birds and pollinators.
