Biologists noted that these trees utilize a survival mechanism of shedding leaves to flower during periods of water stress.

As the season progressed, the phenomenon expanded to include the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso. Amidst extreme drought conditions, with the National Institute of Meteorology reporting humidity levels as low as 10% to 17%, pink and yellow ipês have also bloomed. These flowering events remain critical for the ecosystem, providing essential nectar for pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds during arid months.

The flowering phenomenon has also been observed in Manaus, where white ipê trees along the central median of Avenida Djalma Batista have entered their blooming season. This urban landscape transformation is part of a green corridor project initiated around 2012-2013. The flowering in Manaus typically coincides with the peak of the Amazonian Summer between September and October. The Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability (Semmas) monitors these cycles and collects seeds to produce seedlings for future urban arborization efforts.
